Update your first name, last name or marital status by post

You’ll need to send us proof of your identity if you want to change your name or marital status. We’ve listed the documents you can send us below.

Send us proof to change your first name, last name or both

You must send us original documents, not photocopies or certified copies, of the items listed below.

You can send us the following by post:

  • A signed letter confirming the details you want to change.
  • An original document showing what you want to change. This could be a deed poll, marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate.

If you’re changing your name back to one we already have on record, you might not need to send us proof.
