Yearly Pensions Increase (PI)

What is PI and how does it affect me...

Every year we review Civil Service pensions in payment to determine if they should be increased in line with prices. This review is called Pensions Increase (PI), and it takes effect from the first Monday after 6 April each year.

We use the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) to September of the previous year to determine PI. If CPI shows an increase in prices, PI is applied to pensions in payment in line with CPI. If prices have fallen, or remained at the same level, no PI is applied.

The 2026 PI is 3.8% and will be applied to pensions from 6 April 2026.

Distribution of PI

Distribution of your Pensions Increase information, P60s and payslips will begin at the end of March and will be completed by the end of May. Please allow up to 10 working days from your usual pay date for postal documents to arrive.

Royal Mail delays may affect delivery. Check to see if you are affected here: https://www.royalmail.com/service-update

If you have re-registered on the new portal and chosen to receive your communications digitally, your P60 and payslip will also be available there to view or download. If you have not yet re-registered, it’s easy to create your account. All P60s and payslips will be uploaded to the portal by the end of May.
